bible doctrine

"We have to start with Scripture, not with experience. Our own consciousness is no safe guide even to understanding our own experiences. We can be very imperfect interpreters of what happens to us or others; Scripture alone is dependable. There is much that is hidden from our awareness even in our own lives." - Ian H. Murray

Our success as a church is not defined in terms of attendance or numbers. Our success is measured against our mission: "Go and make disciples." Who is the Lord going to use to make these disciples? Other disciples! That's where you come in!

Peter writes, "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:13) While we don't always know how God plans to use us in the future, we certainly want to be ready for the task when the time is right. As Christians we understand that "preparing our minds" is not an act of self-motivation, but will involve being firmly established in the truth.

With this in mind we have a course called "Bible Doctrine." At the core of the curriculum is a textbook by the same name by Wayne Grudem. We will cover the 500 pages in approximately 11 reading segments of 40-50 pages each month. Class time will include discussion and teaching. The reading will be a critical part of the course; the teaching will build on the reading, not merely repeat it. There is also a extensive workbook which will be covered during the lecture times.

Classes meet on Tuesday evenings once per month with a new course beginning each January. It is recommended that one has completed or at least begun the Foundations Series before endeavoring to take this course.
