I admit that I don’t like reading genealogies. I don’t. What about you? Yes, I understand that they are filled with truths that are important to the Bible’s storyline, but I have to admit that I’d generally read them quickly and might prefer to skip over them in preaching. However, this week we have a great opportunity to put into practice the truth we talked about last week. “All Scripture is God breathed and is useful (profitable, beneficial)…” (2 Tim. 3:16). That applies to these footnotes, and to this genealogy. As I set out to do this I discovered some amazing things.

One might search for sermons that have been preached on these verses and come up wanting. However, as I set out to study them I discovered rich truths about God’s promised blessing and what it means for us, rich truths about the life of faith, all of which make a claim on our lives—which call us to follow in the footsteps of faith.
