Most of us are quite aware that Christ isn’t Jesus’ last name, as if He were the son of Joseph and Mary Christ. However, it might be that many read their New Testaments as if Christ was nothing more than that. It may explain why some have asked why Jesus and John the Baptist came preaching the kingdom of God but Paul seems to be concerned with the preaching about something else.

This Sunday we are going to explore Paul’s letter to the Colossians and see that, in fact, Paul was quite consumed with preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. In doing so, it is my goal that we can all begin to read our New Testaments in a way that reflects the significance of the title, “Christ,” in our New Testaments.

As we explore Colossians 3:1-17, you will be able to see clearly that Paul was indeed preaching the same Gospel of the kingdom that the King proclaimed. These verses are all about what it looks like for us, the heirs of the kingdom, to cease doing the bidding of the kingdom of darkness and to begin living for the cause of our King.
