Acts 20 begins and ends with Paul leaving Ephesus. In the middle we have a farewell tour of Macedonia and Greece. Paul’s farewell message to Ephesus also serves as the only example of Paul’s teaching to the churches in the book of Acts (the others are to unbelieving audiences).

What does Luke believe the church needs to hear from Paul? What did the church of Ephesus need in Paul’s absence? What does the church today need in Paul’s absence? How does the church move forward without him? How must we implement what we have learned from him?

As we examine this chapter on Paul’s departure, we will discover much about what we need today as believers. And since the message from Paul is a message to the elders of the Ephesian church themselves, we will learn much about the important calling of those who lead the church.
